More parts make for less cost
The manufacturer of industrial building controls was stuck in a decades-long, losing battle with a larger competitor. A worldwide investigation of contractors, installers, and customer facilities revealed that the industry practice of continuously driving down parts costs had been driving up the amount of expensive field labor such that total installed costs were actually increasing. The solution was a modular, flexible, product line-Metasys-that served multiple market segments and required far less expensive field labor.
